Putting Green Turf Characteristics and Specifications

Base - 4-6" of class II base. Four to six inches of base is used to get natural drainage, eliminating any soft spots on the putting green caused by rain. We sculpt in undulations, tiers, left to rights, right to lefts, uphill and straight areas, just like a natural putting green. We compact base to 95% compaction so there will be no settling. Then the putting green is trowel finished so it is perfectly smooth (a painstaking effort) but undulated. Any imperfection in the base will show up in the finished putting green.

Turf - One Putt Putting Green Turf is the only synthetic turf with a non-uniform tufting pattern. Common putting green turf is beaded in a straight line, like looking down a corn field and seeing the corn rows. This allows balls to roll on the sand in between synthetic fibers and does not give a true roll. One Putt's non-uniform tufting allows the ball to roll across the lips of the putting green fibers thus providing a truer roll, just like a natural putting green. One Putt putting green surface comes with a 8-year factory warranty for fading!

Fiber Length - Fiber length for our putting green surface is 1" and allows for 8 lbs. of fill per square foot. Fiber length is very important.

  1. Any polypropylene material is going to move (constrict in cold and expand in heat). The longer the fiber, the better putting green seams will hide.
  2. The longer the fiber, the more fill per square foot. 8 lbs. of fill per square foot is needed to keep turf from moving and showing putting green seems.
  3. The thicker the fill the less chance of the silica sand compacting and turning the green hard.
  4. The ball checks up better on the putting green when it's made with thicker material.

Fill Material - One Putt Greens has developed the most advanced fill process in the world. Common fill is silica sand with some sort of top dressing material. That's great for the first year until the putting green becomes hard and un-puttable. One Putt putting green fill is a ground granulate rubber, silica sand, very important anti-compation mineral, and a non-slip flooring material.

Rolling - The putting green is rolled with a 300 lb. roller to crimp the tips of the fibers over to achieve desired putting speed. If one skimps on rolling time, the putting green will need to be re-rolled after two weeks to a month. If rolled properly, the putting green will only need to rolled once every year.
